Heater Hose Switch isn't working most likely.....based on what you have told us you've already checked and verified.

What is this heater hose switch you refer to? Did all the hoses, a flush, new 180F t-stat, coolant, etc., this past weekend on our '98. Engine runs cool and the heater will drive you out but I don't know what switch you refer to. Thanks.

Never mind.

Do both heater hoses get hot? If not, plugged heater core.

I am not 100% sure of the year but approx 97,98 they did away with heater control valves and just used the blend door to regulate temp, coolant flows continous on these later models.

X2 my 98 has no valve...if the bottom hose isnt hot...your screwed...try flushing it but the problem is you cant apply much force to the core or it will pop..

Ok guys. I get it. I don't need 20 more of you with 98 and newer XJs to jump on the band wagon and tell me there is no heater control valve in your Jeeps. My crusty old 91 has it is a horrible design and causes this problem regularly.
