Default CHEROKEE 92 XJ

Hi, I just bought a Cherokee XJ from 92. The stock fog lights aren’t working, but the bulbs seem fine. I cannot locate the fuse for the fog lights. Could someone help ?

Have you checked if the fog light connectors are plugged into each other?

Hi Sworwoo, thank you for your reply. I have checked the bulbs and unmounted the light case, it all seemed well connected. Do you mean connectors somewhere else?

Thank you.

Are you aware that the foglights only work on low beam?

The basics of troubleshooting is to generally start at the power supply or battery and look for where the power stops. However common sense is to check the bulb, fuse, and obvious connectors.

If you don’t want to hunt for the issues (which can be very frustrating. For example the prior tip about high beams stopping the fog lights turning on. I sure didn’t know that) as I was saying, you can just rewire the fog lights. But that gets close to the same amount of work as finding the issue.

They may be in the stock position but I'm not so sure they're the OEM lights & given the additional under bumper Cibies, who knows how they're all wired up.

Most country's lighting regs. require fogs not to be used with hi beams & that is achieved (on XJ's) with a relay, i.e. it does not serve the usual function of a relay in a lighting circuit. That said, neither of mine have fogs that go out/don't come on with hi-beams, despite UK regs, & I've never worked out how/why that is.

On my 90 XJ the fog light relay is mounted on the drivers side in front of the radiator.
The 92 may be similar.
