cherokee 4wd conversion
I just recently was given a 1993 cherokee 4.0 h.o. and its 2wd. I found a 1996 with a 4.0 and 4wd for real cheap, the motor has a knock and the floor boards are rotted out. I was wondering if it is a direct swap for the front axle and tranny/tranny case. Would I need to buy anything else? What modifications would I need to do?
thanks

You will have to mount the shift linkages and possibly cut a hole in the tranny tunnel for the lever to come through but everything else is fairly simple. The drivetrain from the 96 will have to be used to make everything match (driveshafts, t-case, etc) If you look at your current axle, you will notice that it is almost the same as a 4X4 but it is just solid without any of the drive parts fitted in it

If you have a complete donor truck then you should be good to go. Between the two trucks all the parts you need will be there. You will also need the transmission from the 4x4 as it is different from the 2WD trans. So check out the condition of that as well.
