autozone has a free check for engine codes!
I would Double check all your fluids though since it sounds like you paid for a oil change they may not have added enough fluid or over filled it or something.
What are your guages reading when this light does come on.

All the gauges are fine except for the oil gauge..When i come to a stop the oil gauge goes all the way down to 0. but when i start driving again it goes back up to normal. but when i stop again it goes back down to 0..etc..etc..it just gets annoying.

Newer XJs have a "Check Gauges" light?!?! What kind of Cadillac poo is that...LOL. I always monitor my gauges. It's a habit.

My guess is that all of your gauges have a certain spot built into them that when the needle goes past that point, you get your check guages light. The oil PSI should never go to 0 so, I'm sure that low reading is what is setting your light off. If your XJ still runs good even when the guage goes down to 0 then there is probably a problem with your oil, guage, pressure line or sending unit. Fix the problem with your guage and your light will stay off.

Get a mech gauge and test it. If you have a Haynes manual it spells out exactly how to do it.
If you don't have a haynes manual get one they are great!

Give it an oil change... I know mine starts losin pressure when the oil gets old... But if its going down to trip the CG light, double check your oil level... I run a 1QT filter on mine and I know it takes more like 6.5 to 7.0 Qts. on each oil change, and if I just do 6Qts. like the factory says, I will be low enuff to trip the light...

deffently check your oil if its low then put more in and iff your presshure still drops then you got a problem. the xj tend to leak from a couple diffrent places so you will lose some oil.

my 2000 xj 4.0 was doing the same thing. Not everytime, and only after warming up. I popped the hood and found the oil pressure sending unit mounted just above the oil filter on the passenger side. Turns out the sensor was leaking through the body, into the plug. I replaced the sensor($42.21-O'Reilly's Borg Warner S4191), and the problem went away.

Hmmmmm....Just got an oil change? I'm willing to bet either one or both of the following is the issue:
1. Fram Filter was used
2. The monkey who changed the oil buggered up the sender unit some how (although they normally max out when they're broken)
Is it doing this when the motor is hot, cold, or both?
I presume you hear no bad noises (knocking, banging... or other sounds of a motor that's about to take flight?)

So just as a test today I changed the oil.. Put a nice 13$ KN filter and for kicks some oil additive... Oil pressure was perfect... Running the trip meter to see how many miles before it starts to go back down..

i think every XJ or jeep in general leaks some kinda fluid from somewhere. i think i have a few actually haha. my gauge will go down, but never to 0. an oil change should help that though, see if its leakin, and check your oil often.

I usually use my gauge as an oil change reminder... the lower the pressure, the sooner I need to get it changed. lol
And I always use a Lucas Oil Treatment with everything...
