In the process of refurbishing a 2001 XJ sport, check engine light was on, went in to parts store, restarted the vehicle, severe miss, worn rev above 3k, light now blinking (stopped after a few minutes) stopped the vehicle, attached a code reader, got these P0303 & P1494. Cleared the codes, let the vehicle cool (it was 90 plus out) started and run fine??? I am aware of the #3 cylinder issue regarding overheated injector, wondering if that caused the issue?
looking for advice for a permanent fix.

A blinking CEL means imminent damage. Mine did that, rocking and missing massively, got worse as i revved it. It was the coil rail ignition, wasn't firing on two cylinders. That sends raw fuel into the cat converter causing damage. New coil rail was about $200.

 

I think it blinks when it's actually detecting the misfire. The P1494 could be as simple as the gas cap, or rotten vent lines to the fuel tank and evap canister.

 

When it cooled, and I cleared the codes, it ran normally? I know the cause didn’t disappear, but can it be heat related?
