my 2000 cherokee has been running fine then this am check engine light came on...I had driven about 40 miles stopped then started back up and the light stayed on..Any thing I can do or check?

go to advanced auto or autozone and get the code read for free...then post it up. we cant tell you anything to look at without that.

 

if mine aint on i think theres something wrong i eventually got tired of seein it so i put black electrical tape over the light so i wouldnt notice it,but i havent had an issue with it

 

I would check it out.

Mine came on and I ignored it for a while because my engine was running fine, but the wires leading to my fuel injector were fused together somehow and I would have been stranded if I had not have checked it out

 

I am on my way to autozone now!!

it read misfire on cylinder one...

 

That's not bad then, I've had that happen before. I believe something like 130 different things can set off that light so you never really know until you check it out

 

Pull your spark plug, check to see if it's good. Check the gap on it. Also check your plug wires.

 

check cap and rotor also
