Check engine light flashing
Hello,
My check engine light flashes only above 60 mph. There is no noticeable decline in performance when it's flashing. I have recently replaced the plugs and coil.
Anyone know what I could check to further diagnose the problem.
Thanks

flashing check engine light means random multible misfire, and it flashes to tell you to stop driving b4 you cause servere catalytic converter damage. Did it do it before or after the plugs?

Hello. I'm not sure what year Cherokee you have but if your check engine light comes on the computer is sensing a problem and storing a code. You can access the stored codes by turning your key on and off 3 times (Not to start it just to the on position) and leaving it on the last time and then count the flashes of the check engine light to get the code numbers..For example 2 flashes then a short gap and then 4 flashes is code 24. A longer gap will be between each code. Let me or anyone else here know the year and engine of your Cherokee and what codes you come up with and we'll help you figure it out.

It's a 2001. The light flashed on a long trip a month or so ago. Never had it flash since. Since then I did get an solid light and error code of 300 and 301. Replaced (2 weeks ago)the plugs and coil and the misfire went away. Took it on the highway today and it started flashing.
Not real interested in pouring gas through the exhaust pipes so any insight into the problem is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Did you have the code cleared using a scan tool? I would pull the plugs and see if they are damaged at all. You may have a fuel/air mixture issue too.

firstime00XJ,
I have a tool to read codes but not clear them. The solid code cleared while the battery was disconnected. Did not come back after replacing the plugs and coil. I'll pull the plugs to look for fouling.
Are there any tests I can do to look at fuel/air mixture problems?
Thanks
