check engine light
alright i swapped my engine and trans out 3 months ago and after the swap had a cel for the nss. the jeep that the trans came out of never had a light on and yes the bulb is functional. is it possible that the linkage for the shifter is not adjusted right?
jeep starts up in park and neutral, will not start in gear, and runs and shifts just fine. i unfortunately have to get my emissions done in 1 month.
i cant remember the codes but will pull them tmmrw.

For lack of a better idea. Since you swapped, are you sure you did a good job on the grounds? I guess at the dipstick tube mount, and that braided strap to the firewall are what get talked about.

Did you do an auto to 5spd swap? Sounds like those codes are all trans related, like your auto PCM is missing data from an auto trans?

nope swapped a 97 aw4 for a 2000 aw4, swapped out the speed sensor and tone ring, and wiring harness. also swapped a 97 4.0 for another 97 4.0. the nss is the same for both year transmissions, this is why i cant figure out what is going on. i had no trans codes before the swap, and now these codes are coming up.
today i checked the connection at the pcm, found to be good. checked the nss harness at firewall found ok. found the reverse light to work.
im curious if the adjustment with the linkage could be causing this.
to get my key out of the ignition i sometimes have to push the gear selector forward a little.

now im curious i just got to get it to pass emissions. i have a pcm for a 97 manual 4.0 could i jsut swap that in temporarily and be able to drive it? or does the trans need the pcm to communicate with the tcm to be functional?
wouldnt the 1694 code cause drivability issues?

alright i cleared the codes and the 1694 is no longer their, but the others are still active.
once again is their an adjustment some where that could be causing this issue?
i found a website that has nss for cheap http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/sk...gs+Best+Seller

I'm really no help. There is an NSS adjustment, but I think that's for what it says, Neutral start....If you want to test it, clean it, maybe save $50

there is a guy another forum saying that the ecm and tcm is one unit, i believe that the tcm is under the dash. i know the tcm and the ecm talk to one another, but they are not the same unit are they?

Evening...That link /\ has a pretty clear process for testing the switch for what contacts what in which gear. I thought there was a chance something is not right, but still feels right when you drive it. That might explain your light.
(I have a manual toggle switch on mine)
I'm not much help on the alphabet puzzle. My 90 has a TCM under the glove box and an ECM. It could be they got combined and called a PCM at some point, but I REALLY don't know.
