Well, I'm looking, thinking. Again I'm learning this too. Hopefully somebody else can chime in. You said;
"to get my key out of the ignition i sometimes have to push the gear selector forward a little."
That still happening? As far as post #10, I think there is a way to make that work, but really I'd think you would want to chase it down. I'd guess if there's a different PCM for a manual, there is no TCU. I'm gonna look over those codes, and also see if your TCU is one with the PCM,or a separate component like my Renix. (with both ECM & TCU)....or try to
During this process, have you reset your PCM? (disconnect the battery and touch the terminals together)?

Gathering that you don't have a separate TCU, also This looks promising;

the tcm code went away a while ago randomly. but i still have the nss codes. dflintstone i really appreciate youre help, and i have found that their is a tcm. as the tcm is located under the driver side kickpanel. the deal with having to wiggle the shifter is no longer occuring after the new nss. it is tougher to move the selelctor i think the big nut on the nss is too tight.

OK, still looking, found this : http://www.lunghd.com/Tech_Articles/...djustments.htm Easy enough to rule that one out.
A separate TCU, are you sure? I know you have a PCM I still haven't verified that the NSS and a range sensor are one in the same. May well be, but I haven't found that yet. (thought I DID see that your trans control is combined in your PCM.)(in your Jeep Forum thread)
EDIT, OK, you are indeed correct, there is a separate TCU.
Hey , your very welcome. Truth is I want to study this stuff anyway.
I'd double check the grounds down there below the dip-stick, perform the cable adjustment, and reset the ecm. If that didn't do it I'd check for voltages as referred to above. (in, "just answer")
Just found; "You should adjust the selector cable or linkage before calibrating the neutral safety switch"
705 is the tps, which can be checked/adjusted.

went to firestone today and they hooked their scanner to it and only p705 and p1899 were active. they checked the nss, checked the connection at the nss harness, cleaned the connector, made sure that the pins were good. we replaced the battery due to low voltage. and i still have codes p705,and p1899.
they think that its inside the transmission on the shift solenoid side, but that does not make any sense as all the codes are related to a nss which is a different harness.

It was an older PDF file, and for an 88, did say 705 was the TPS. Guess that's for one of those spendy old scanners.....DRB? The TPS you know, controls the automatic some and can be checked with a meter.

What a hassle to have to go through when everything seems just fine. A whole sea of code #'s and a legal hurdle for your tag.....then for a small fortune somebody says "it was the green wire"!

alright the dealership found no communication between the tcm and ecm. they unplugged my tcm plugged in a new and no communication still, they plugged my old one back in and said it started communicating again.
they cleared the codes, drove and said it was ready to pick up. i get their and the check engine light came back for the same codes.

Found this, (Lareto's in info thread):
http://www.iequus.com/Dtc/Index?make=Jeep
P705 doesn't come up
Bingo:
http://www.check-engine-light.com/trouble-codes Trans range sensor it is.
