http://www.check-engine-light.com/trouble-codes Trans range sensor it is. (the p705). I'm still searching.....one guy on a jeep forum said the range sensor signal goes through the nss....no clew how valid that is. Got to wonder if you don't want to throw a TPS at is just because its such a *****! You HAVE adjusted the kick-down cable...or someone would have...the tps IS active in the trans control circuit.
During this process, have you reset your PCM? (disconnect the battery and touch the terminals together)?
Hopefully somebody will chime in here.
I did find this Trans Shifter cable Adjustment. Page 21-336 under trans&transfer case. http://www.jeep4x4center.com/knowledge-base/index.htm

This is the second post by somebody one might trust that refers to the signal going THREW the NSS.
Someone else pointed out that Transmission RANGE might actually be referring to the Transfer case. Your 4WD and the lights there working OK?
(there IS a switch on at least some of them I know)

The Range Sensor Signal goes thru the NSS. Pull, clean, lube (dielectric grease) reinstall...and post up the results.

alright today i put the manual pcm on since it does not have to see response from the tcm. the tcm still powers up and was still sending fault codes to the manual pcm. so i wound up having to disconect the tcm. i know that i have to shift it manually and that i wont have torque converter lock up. i know the temps are going to get a little bit higher. i plan to run it like this until the comp is ready for emissions test. will this burn up the trans by running it without the tcm?

I do not know. Slipping will cause wear and heat. Wouldn't think you would want to do much of that.

There is a link in post #24 that shows some trans wiring. I think if you jumped Purple/White to yellow it might work OK without 4 th.
I'm going to town Monday. Maybe just for my own knowledge I'll try unplugging my tcu and see what my override does.
Do your 4WD lights on the dash work?

well it worked out. took it the emissions station with the manual pcm, tcm unhooked and it passed. hooked the tcm back up and everything was good. i would not recomend doing it though as you can cause damage.
