Most places will do it cheap, if not free. Up here everyone does it for free except the big garages, like the dealer or Sears. Worse case scenario you pay $25 bucks to have someone read it. If youre planning on keeping the Jeep, spend $45 and get a code reader. GREAT tool to have. Once you get the code then post it up here and Im sure youll get plenty of help.
Go down to Advanced Auto Parts and just use theirs in exchange of a driver's license for collateral. If you are unsure how to operate it they would be more than happy to help you out. I did mine recently on a '98 Xj I bought recently and this is what came up so hope you all can help me out as well
AAP has an Actron OBD2 Auto Scanner, this is what popped up.
PO138 - o2 sensor circuit high volts (bank 1 sensor 2)
PO463 - Fuel level sensor A circuit high input
PO141 - o2 sensor heater circuit malfunction (bank 1 sensor 2)
I have the xj sitting at a mechanic who hooked up to a scanner in the shop and mentioned it was just the o2 sensors, but said more than likely it could end up being the cat converter...which he also mentioned everything after the cat is kind of shot and will need replaced. I just got temp tags for it, so in about a month I will need the emissions. As a FT student and only on unemployment it's cutting it tight.
He's trying to set me up with a new cat (cali...which I'm not sure why as I live in Colorado)
So, wondering if you all know of a reasonably priced and efficient way of going about this project.
Thanks for the help in advance.
