Cheap radio and form factor
The DPO pulled the radio out of my XJ and replaced it with a Bose. That unit doesn't work and I need a new radio.
Can anyone tell me what "form factor" the XJ requires? I think it is DIN but don't know if much about the subject.
Also, can anyone recommend a good, solid radio with CD player? I don't need fancy, flashy, colorful. But I live in the country and could use one that got good reception. Other than that, playing one CD at a time is fine for me. And I don't need Blue Tooth or iPod connects even though I know they're cool features...I just can't justify the money.
Oh, and I need new 5.25" speakers for the overhead console if anyone knows of a model that sounds good.

Good for your applications. Think of it as constructive criticism.
JVC/Dual/Pioneer/Sony/JBL/Kicker and some others are low end audio components. Im not being biased or rude, just stating the facts.

Single DIN.
I've had 3 Alpines and love them. The sound quality is excellent for the price, all things considered. That said, they seem to be somewhat picky about which disks they'll play without skipping, and I've had to send one of mine back for repairs because it decided it didn't want to eject discs anymore.
I've also had 2 JVCs. Both were cheap (one was from a pawnshop!). Both were fantastic about playing anything I threw in them... I swear they'd play beer coasters if I tried. But, the sound quality is significantly lower than the Alpines.
My Cherokee currently has the pawnshop JVC in it. It's a bit long in the tooth, and my XJ speakers suck, but it keeps chugging along.

All I need is one I can listen to NPR on. You know...whale songs, birds chirping, stories about illegal immigrants cruelly made to stand in line for fifteen minutes to sign up for social security and redistribution-of-wealth-stolen-from-the-peasants payments.

I have always been an Alpine guy, love them. But the previous owner installed a kinda low end Sony Explode and it works pretty well. Has an Aux input rather than a USB which I'd prefer but for now I'm not changing it.
