Not sure what all the Sony Xplod hate is about......they are pretty good radios for the money and durable. I've never encountered an issue with one breaking.

I have this one......$90 w/free shipping from Amazon back in December. Sold the VW I had installed it in and now installed it in my XJ.

Also picked up some Infinity Kappa 59.2i speakers for front and rear.......should produce some quality sound for a fairly cheap investment.

I looked at this at the StuffMart couple days ago. It was $100-120. Still not bad. cheap, easy, and returnable if it unloads.

I have a pioneer in my XJ and would not consider it crap at all. my 2000 is a 1 1/2 DIN or I would hook you up with my stock unit.

get a pioneer, you can get a cheap pioneer for a little more than a hundred bucks and it will literally play anything you put in it.

This is the way to go.

Kenwood has higher rms outputs than sony/jvc/pioneer/etc, better warranties and the speakers are also made of higher end components most of the time(ie. diaphragm, vc, motor)

I would disagree with the higher rms. Out of the 26 bestbuy as for under 200 Sony has the highest average which is 52. You obiviously are an audiophile and only expect the best but the thing is 90% of people just want better than stock and I would say with a few exceptions any aftermarket would be better than stock. I have a mid-range alpine in my 94 along with infinity 6 1/2 in the back and eclipse 5 1/4 in the front along with a weak kicker in a walmart box and I love the way it sounds.

Kenwoods rms is closer to peak than most head units.

Its no clarion, but its better than sony/jvc/pioneer, etc

Buy this deck, you will not regret it. I was a professional mobile audio/video installer for a little over 5 years. Are there better decks? Surely. For the money? Not likely. Also, Crutchfield has free shipping on all decks right now, and your wiring harness/dash kit will be included in the price.

Pioneer has always built solid consumer level decks. If you're building a high-end setup, there's better options. Unless you want to spend the big bucks for their X series stuff....which you don't.

Many years ago - we're talking maybe thirty - I put in Pioneer decks in some of the cars I bought. After college, I bought a new car...with a good radio...and never bothered again. The best I ever installed was a Soundstream. High fidelity.

Anyway, I'd rather head out to Walmart today and just pick one up. Do you have a recommendation on which Sony? I'd rather buy this Pioneer...but Walmart is ten minutes away.

I hate recommending anyone to go to WalMart, but for the sake of fellow XJ driver I suppose I can allow it...

This deck should do everything you need, and more.

Cool. Thanks much. I have ONE other question...I see there isn't much difference between the Pioneer 2200 and two or three of their units up to about $180. I am wondering what you get for the extra money - are the higher priced units giving you anything worthwhile?

I'm not looking for high fidelity, high power audio...just a good solid unit...but I realized that after buying four speakers and the head what's another $40 or so. So my question is...do you get anything for the money?

Higher true wrms per channel, features like usb, aux. in, more rca ports, more files readable, more colors etc..
