Cheap 3" lift
I am looking for ideas on how to lift my XJ about 3" on the cheap. My search fu is weak and I have not had much luck. I am brand new to the world of Jeepin and could use some help on a start. I would really like to hit the junk yard next Sunday. Thanks for any help.
Bret,
P.S. (got my new window motor and reg in today so I am not 'frustrated' at this moment)

Check this website out. I'm trying to get all of the supplies together for a 3.5" budget lift. My dad calculated it out, and it came out to be something like 153$ for the whole lift. I don't know how good of quality it will be, but it'll work until i get 700$ for a brand new lift.

I have the budget boost and i'm more than happy... about 3.5"
(50, 40, 40, 16, 15, 20, 12 = expect to spend about 200 when the smoke all clears... If you do it the right way, unless you get stuff "donated" to you)
leaf pack:
XJ main
Chevy Blazer main
Chevy Blazer Secondary
XJ third, acting as an overload.
Up country coil springs and coil spacer
JK rubicon shocks
and i would be prepared to do a t-case drop, but lift it then drive it, if it vibes then put it in...
mine vibed, but come to find out i have a bad wheel bearing hub assembly, which explains the vibes... but im too lazy to take it out now, never hurts to have good pinion angle, and motor mounts are fine.

$10 bucks 3.5" lift
I have a 98' XJ and when i first got it i wasnt sure what kind of lift i was going to use so i did mine w/ $10 bucks and i used it for a couple of months with no ploblems at ALL! I found a pipe that was the same diameter as the front spring and i cutted to 3.5" used the same shocks and no deadwhoble or vibrations. And for the back i added a leaf from some old leaf springs i had and the $10 bucks i spend was to buy the center bolts for the leaf springs. SO! DONT spend your $$$ on budget lifts just SAVE for a real LIFT!

A. you shouldnt re-use your u-bolts, they will snap, torquing them down stretches them.
B. you are maxing out your stock shocks.
c. you "found" pipe and "some old leaf spring"
d. your caster is terrible, control arms need to be addressed.
e. judging by your grammar ("i cutted" "deadwhoble" "ploblems") i'm not sure if you would know what vibrations feel like (no offense)
f. what is your definition of a "real LIFT!" AAL, or full lift pack?
g. yeah the only thing that would be a little better than my lift would be 3.5" lift coils in the front.
budget lifts should be called, i dont care about name brand and enjoy the challenge of fabricating and engineering when stuff doesnt fit lift
So the moral is, if you were the type of kid that wore nothing but Nike in high school then drop 800 on a lift, but if your the type that wore band tee's and Levi's then save that 800 for a locker and re-gearing and then disc brake conversion.
