Center Console Removal
98 Cherokee Sport
I'm replacing my heater core. I've almost got the whole dash out but I can't seem to get the console out. I popped off the auto trans **** and removed both its and the transfer case lever bezels but how the heck to I get the console out. The parking brake won't allow it to go far enough in either direction. Thanks.

(can't believe the amount of disassembly for this d**n heater core!)

You need to get that p brake handle all the way up (and then some lol) its a bit of a pain. I just finished a htr core in a 2012 chrysler 200.....that sucked!

Thanks, guys. I'll loosen the adjuster and give it a try. One question for the captain or anyone that's done a heater core: Did you have to remove the whole dash assembly or could you just pull it back enough to get the AC-Heater out?

I'm researching online now where that adjustment nut is under the truck, before I head over to my Jeep, but in case it's hard to locate, can someone tell me where to find it?
Also, any steps or considerations for loosening it? I imagine I should have the handle DISengaged while loosening the nut, or is that incorrect?

That nut is 13 MM. Uses a ratcheting box end wrench to loosen/tighten it.
If it's never been out its probably rusted solid and you'll have to cut it off.
The device is located under the Heep, just below the driver's door.
Pics relating to the adjuster, including replacement parts.

I got under there (my 1988 Cherokee XJ) today for quick moment, and I think that it is the center (not left or right) where the parking brake cables meet up (as Bmoney said). I'll report back again after next time I'm under there and confirm.

Yep, it's definitely center (not left or right) where the parking brake cables meet up on my 1988 Cherokee XJ 4x4.
