Cb radio........Need information
So iv been wanting to purchase a CB radio for some time now and i have enough money, well enough for now, i was hoping somebody on here could tell me EVERYTHING that i need. just list it all and possibly the installation process. My Jeep has a window mount for an antenna already, but no antenna, attached to that window mount is a cord i am assuming will be attached to the scanner. any input would be greatly appreciated.

yeah, i have been doing ALOT of searching around and not for the past couple hours...iv notice there has been some debate over antennas. from what i understand its all about the antenna and tuning it in. iv found various kits and what not, i am very new to this. im thinking of doing an "under the hood" mount or the rear mount on my xj. just have to decide what i am going to do

First you say CB, then you say scanner...
FYI, mobile scanners are illegal in most states unless youre some kind of LEO/Emergency response person.
For a CB youll need ~10ft of 12ga wire, copper stranded. Red and black, and a inline fuse holder like this:
You will put the fuse holder in the Positive line, close to the battery. Use a 10 or 15 amp fuse, Stock CBs dont use much power.
The CB should come with a Mount, I put mine on the passengers side of the console.
You will need ~15 feet of Coax cable to run from the radio to the antenna.
An antenna mount, I used this:
I used a 4ft fiberglass antenna, but a 102" whip is the best you can get.
A SWR meter, or a friend with one, this will go between the radio and CB so you can tune your antenna and gets removed when tuning is done.
Install time if you know what youre doing: 2hr at most.

Just go to a truck stop and buy a Cobra that plugs into your cig lighter. There only bout 40 to 50 bucks. Then buy a K-30 magnet mount antenna. The antenna package I got at Loves was only 30 bucks and came with the antenna, the mount, and 15ft of the cable. Then just plug it all in and your good to go. You may have to play with the squelch some. I'll post pics of my setup tomorrow

My CB is a old POS Midland that's like 20 years old that plugs into my lighter and it works fine for talkin to my buds. It only has a range of about 5 miles though, but that's all I really need it for. If he's more serious about it and wants the top dollar stuff then he should go ahead and get it. But everyone that's not a trucker that I know who has CBs barely use them unless there goin on trips in a group or on some trails
