Default CB Antenna Mount

I am new to CB radios and have a quick question. I just bought a cheap radio and I love it. I have a magnetic antenna base on top of the jeep but am looking for something more permanent. I was wondering if it was the surface area of the antenna that was important or the overall height.

In other words, would I get a better signal with a short antenna on my roof rack using something like this…

Or would I be better off just getting a longer antenna (same total height as the other option) and put it down lower like this…

if the mount has threads for an antenna got to radio shack or a store tht handles antennas and get about a three or four foot antenna and screw it in you should be good

So go with the first one (Off the rack) and a small antenna?

CB Antenna mount from Radio Shack.

Mount.

Spring.

102" Whip unbreakable, but be careful as you can sure break some flourescent lights in overhangs with it.

Only thing you need to do to a SSWhip is clean it once a year with steel wool. It will last forever.

I dont know about Kansas but here in Cali CB is very popular. Do yourself a favor and check the SWR's on that set. Its easy to get them in the bad area. An SWR meter is one item all radio operators should have access too. 73, Bill
