A Capful of Trans Fluid Makes the Pecking Go Down?
So I was standing outside the Jeep waiting for it to heat up after work (cold as ***** here), and a dude putting groceries in his van commented on the constant pecking sound coming from under my hood.
He said that the sound was a common annoyance with Jeeps, and if I took a small capful of transmission fluid and put it in where you put the oil on the motor it would smooth the sound out... weird home remedy huh? Anyone else ever heard of doing this?

Using trans fluid in oil helps remove sludge build up in the motor. Using it in small doses like that is similar to using marvel mystery oil.

Marvel Mystery Oil. 1 quart with next oil change, using a Wix or Napa Gold oil filter.
A cap full of ATF isn't gonna do squat for a sticky lifter.
Flexplate bolts should be checked regardless.

That's what I was going to say. A cap full is nothing compared to the 6 qts. of motor oil already in there.

I run a quart of ATF though mine for 10 or so miles before the oil change to clean it out(its usually about a quart low by then anyway), always done this on old engines. but brake fluid is terrible stuff and I wouldn't want it near anything that I dont want destroyed besides my brakes and clutch.
Now a cap full (or a gallon) of salt water with sand in it does wonders in other applications.... (bad ones)

Always wondered about using ATF as a cleaning agent before an oil change. Lot of guys I know use that engine flush, but I swear I think it's just like Kerosene or something. At least ATF has lube properties.
Cool fact about the brake fluid! Never knew.

Lifters, that's what he kept saying. I was trying to remember. I don't know what lifters or flexplates are so those are more things I need to get familiar with. My next oil change is February so I'll buy a quart of the MMO beforehand as well. Thanks for the advice!
