Today I replaced the blinker from hitting a deer three nights ago. As I'm looking for a part I dropped I noticed this hose. One end not attached to anything. It's wet. And to me smells like gas! but who knows what the smell actually is. What the heck is it and why could the end be just hanging there?!?

 

Supposed to be attached to the air filter box... May have been bypassed, looks pretty wet...

 

Airline to CCV system it goes to your air filter box. That one doesn't look like mine exactly probrably rigged so oil don't get on air cleaner.

 

It is supposed to go to the air filter box, just like the other fellas said.

Smells similiar to gas because of the blowby and oil fumes that come out of that hose. I don't see how that setup can be good at all. The front hose is supposed to draw air into the crankcase... Imagine all the dirt and crap that hose has let into that engine...

 

There's a nipple sticking out of the top/side of airbox directly across from it. Check the small tube in back to make sure it's not clogged. Is this a recent purchase?

If you know of a good wrecking yard(I love Pull&Save in Spokane), you could pull the whole air cleaner assembly from a 1987 thru 1990 4.0 cherokee, and swap into yours if it was broken.

 

If you go to a wrecking yard, get that line you have shown, if you can find a good one. There is supposed to be a plastic coupling that can split some of the lines in half, and that one you had a picture of should have one, in the middle from the valve cover to the air cleaner housing, but you dont really need that anyway. Just as long as no lines are left unconnected and go where they should go.

 

I would start the engine and see what happens @ the end of that hose. If it purges oil / blowby fumes probably better to just leave alone. If you reconnect it, then you will have an air filter soaked in oil.
