i've seen this before. The "rusty" shaft is out of an early (84-91) cherokee. The square part on the end is the giveaway.


But like caged said, you don't want it if it has the non-abs joints - it uses smaller joints than what you want to have in the rig. Granted, it would get you home if you were gentle on it, but i wouldn't use it as a replacement shaft permanently.

 

the axle shafts in my front axle look like the "rusty" shaft and its out of a 94 xj non disco hmmm the guy i bought it off of must have swaped it out to the crappy shafts dang good thing i pulled some from a 99 guess i better get em in there

but on a side note ive been out a few times so far since my build started snow,rocks ect and the front shafts havent broken yet !!!

 

funny mine look like the oily one and im still disco some thing strange here

 

double checked mine the oily ones for early xjs the picture i posted is from a cj5 dana 20 or 27 that pretty close to the rusty ones

 

the pic I posted is an axle out of a 1991 XJ d30 with ABS

 

My truck does not have ABS. I will see if it fits tomorrow and then take it back out and keep it as a spare if it does. My friend put a new Spicer 5-260X in it for me today. Will make a decent spare if it fits.

 

Well ... It fit. I didn't drive on it but it looked like there would be no problem using it.
