Can I use tubes in my tires ? I just came across some nice tires they are brand new but are a little cracked but do not leak. I want to be safe and want to put some tubes in there. Can I do that if so how ?

Call your local tire shop,if you can you will need liners for the rims I would think.

There will be a serial num. on the tire close to the bead if the last bit of it contains only 3 numbers its over ten yrs old if it has 4 numbers the first two are the week it was built and the last 2 are the year.

As of right now any tire shops will not dismount and remount any tire over 6 yrs old, its not a law yet but DOT is trying to push it thru congress so tire shops are trying to stay ahead of this new law

Have you look at your tires age yet and if so how old is it? If its older than 10 then no I wouldnt.

I cant im at work right now ... If it's younger than 6-10 years old can I use tubes?

i got some tires that my buddy pulled from a bronco 2 back in high school... graduated 7 years ago and they have been sitting on rims in his yard since at least that... cracked alittle on the sides and in between treads... held air fine... didnt even have to balance... 2 are still on my jeep now and that was bout 6 months ago... ive ran them all the way down... but they are bfg at's and tri-plytires so makes a difference... ive beat the crap out of them and still hold air and everything... although they aint lasting long... rubbers real hard... but for $100... couldnt pass it up! lol

You will have a very hard time finding radial tubes for passenger tires. They were discontinued around the turn of the century. Even if they are "new in the package" they have been folded too long and will blow out at the folds.

Tubeless tires were never intended to have tubes used inside of them. They will eventually or quickly abrade that tube until a hole appears.

If the tires are cracked and dry rotted, don't use them. They are structurally unsound and unsafe. They can and will blow to smithereens on the highway. You, your loved ones, and people on the road with you can killed in this way. It has happened before. Don't push it.

It is illegal in all states and against Federal Law to operate a motor vehicle in any unsafe mechanical condition.

I know what I am talking about. I have been in the tire business for over 30 years.

It may be that way in your locale, but it is certainly not universal by any means.
