Default Can I swap a junkyard ignition cylinder with no problem?

I recently lost my one and only jeep key, and after spending 50 bucks to get a new one made from the vin number I find out that apparently the ignition has been previously swapped. My question is, can I swap my ignition cylinder from another parts jeep with no problems? And is there an easy way to remove my ignition cylinder with no key?

I know it can be done in a '97 and up XJ.
I replaced mine cause I could pull the key out with her running.
They tell you to turn the key, slip the clip underneath, and pull out the cylinder with the key.
But I could not do that. Was able to slip the clip and get behind it to pry it out though.

A locksmith could take care if it quickly. He can even swap the tumblers to fit your new key. It cost me about $75 to rekey my Chevy truck. I had to show him my title before he'd do it though. That was $40 for the new lock because it was worn out.

I was having a lot of trouble with the key not wanting to turn in my 98. I bought one of
these these
. I took the old one apart and read the numbers on the lock tumblers and redid the new one to match the old one. Worked perfectly. It's pretty easy to get the old cylinder out. There are plenty of youtubes out there that show how to change the tumblers.
is one.

Year? If it's a Renix, a new cylinder with 2 keys is pretty cheap. $12 when I did my 89. A bit more effort to swap than the later years though.
