Can anyone give me info on two repairs...
Im looking to replace the front left wheel bearing Assm. and replace the brakes all around. I have done fronts before but never drums myself. Any points, diagrams, etc would be MUCH appreciated.
Also, should I buy a new hardware kit for the drums? Also any FSM infos too would be good.

When doing rear drums make sure to do one side at a time, make sure the shoe with the shorter friction area goes toward the front of the vehicle, and having the proper tools will save you time and skin. Hardware kits are cheap insurance and you might as well replace the wheel cylinders too if you can. You don't have to really worry about having the drums turned as long as there are no deep grooves. Keep grease off of the shoes and make sure to adjust the shoes until there is a slight drag.
You from Balmur?

I just did my rear brakes.
Do one side first, as stated, then the other side.
Get a new hardware kit.
Only tool I really found useful was the Brake Spring Pliers with the little hook on one handle for removal of the springs.
One thing I had a tiny bit of trouble was holding the Emergency Brake cable guide in place while installing one spring. The guide is held in by the spring and needs to sit inside the hole the spring goes into.
I found this thread very helpful ( lots of pics ) ........

I just did mine but had all the tools for drum brakes from 30yrs ago. The spring pliers are nice to have.
X2 on the new hardware kit its like $5 for both sides !
Check the wheel cylinders by pulling back the rubber boots if you see oil or a grease builup -change em -they're cheap . If you have to do that the brake line must be removed --mine were sooo rotted at the wheel cylinder they just basically fell apart. replaced both rear brake lines -each line was about $7..
All cheap stuff and new . I also just replaced the drums while I was there about $30-35 a piece you can buy better ones but these were fine.
Make sure to adjust them out against the drums when your done- not to tight but close enough-- you may want to redo em in a week to snug em up after they break in a bit..
All in all it was some time- most all new parts-not expensive- and now I don't have to worry about the rears for awhile

I'm a Don and Mike fan and they always mentioned NattyBoh and the Bromo Seltzer tower while speaking with Balmur accents. The Don and Mike show is no more, but Don Geronimo is now in Sacramento on KHTK and Mike is doing a podcast with Robb and Buzz.

Now that brings back memories.
He went through a very tragic time back here in Maryland in 2005.
Glad to hear he is still on the air.
I too am from Baltimore, currently residing in Bel Air, Maryland.
