Default A/C Question

1999 Jeep Cherokee 4.0L. I was driving yesterday for about 15 minutes with the air conditioner on and it was working fine. Then I noticed a kind of musty smell and it got a little warmer. About a minute after I first noticed, it cooled back down and the smell went away. The same thing happened today. Each time I drove about 10 minutes after it happened without a problem (I arrived at my destination). No strange noises or anything.

Just wondering what's going on.

Edit: I've noticed that if I turn the AC on when the Jeep is cold there is a squealing noise for about 5 seconds. If I let the engine run for about a minute before turning on the AC it doesn't happen. Loose belt or something else?

Haha. When I was editing the image I thought the differential looked better off to the side than in the middle.

Your evaporator is freezing up, check the drain on the pass. side of the firewall in the engine bay to make sure it's not clogged.

Probably two unrelated symptoms. Tighten your serpentine belt to eliminate the start up squeal.

AC clutch could be worn. Try this it worked for me. Haven't bad a problem with it turning off since. You remove the AC compressor clutch and remove a tiny shim and clean the clutch faces with a wire brush.

This aided the clutch removal.
