Buzzing from steering column that stops when turns signal is turned on

Also, stops when emergency lights turned on. A kind of insectoid buzzing sound.
First thought was replace multi switch, but was just reading here about a related relay somewhere in the steering column area.
Where is that relay - is that a possible cause?
(Lights are all working. Buzzing has stopped now, but when it was going, it would stop if turn signal or emergency was on - ok, repeating myself now).

I'm pretty sure that buzzing sound is supposed to be a reminder that you left your key in the ignition when your car is off. Some fault may have caused this to not operate properly.
