Default busted wire on front axle

hi i am a new jeep cherokee owner and i have a wire that runs to the front axle on the drivers side it conects to the back side of the houseing. i dont know what it is and can not find any place that explains what it is and does. there is a sensor on the front side as well. is that bustec wire the reason my 4 wd light is not on on the dash? does it keep the vehical from engaging four wheel drive? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dear newbie, Please include your vehicles year/make/model/engine etc. The more info you provide, the better replies you will get. Pictures are always helpful too. Hope this helps

1 "wire that runs to the front axle on the drivers side it conects to the back side of the housing"

2 "there is a sensor on the front side as well."

1 connects to what housing?

2 did you mean "there is sensor wire on the passenger side as well"?

It's possible you are seeing anti lock brake wires. They would not affect 4 wheel drive. ABS Wire, left circle bolt, right circle brake hose bolt.

Back of the housing by the diff? sure its not a hose to the diff breather?(not being mean, just asking)

Other then that All I can think of would be the abs wires... Unless it has a E-Locker up front...
