Angry busted gas tank, need help

so i was wheeling today, and while pulling someone out of a hole, the guys hitch snapped and the sling came flying forward and the hook hit my tank and went right through, putting a fist sized hole in in...

so the jeep with the busted tank is a 95 xj....i have a 98 xj thats sitting in my driveway for a 1 ton project, but i was wondering if the 98 tank will fit on the 95 xj?

and i was wondering if anyone knew of any writeups for changing out the xj gas tank?

Pretty sure the tank changed between those years. The fuel filter went from inline to in the tank. The pump might be in a different location as well. You can check all those, don't take my word for it lol.

Now you will never use a strap with a metal end.

Imagine if that had hit you or someone else.

Never ever EVER use straps with metal hooks or ends for recovery.

IIRC they switched to a plastic tank in '97, relocated the fuel pump from the front side to the top and changed the size and shape of the tank skids. I've never tried it to see if it'll fit.

i know, normally i use my bungee with the "clevis" clamps or "d-rings" or whatever u wanna call it......but in this case to get his tj out the tight ditcht my bungee couldnt fit to his hitch because of the angle and ho burried he was, he had smaller strap with hooks at each end....in the tight fit its all we could use....

but ya lesson learned on that one....if it aint my jeep stuck i aint taking the risk of metal hooks, lol

but just to be clear it was his hitch that snapped....

so anyways the so my 98 wont fit?...so what are my options for replacing this tank asap? its my DD so i kinda need it...

if i gotta buy one im not going used or JY, im just as likely to find a rusted old POS that is leaking...

The tank may fit (not 100% certain), but the fuel line and pump wiring probably will be too short since the pump is in a different location.
Since you'll have to buy a tank either way (to replace the one you scavenge out of the 98?), may as well just get the right one for the 95.

Autozone has a spectra for $135, special order.
