I can see that the exhaust valve is NOT round, so was it not round from new, or eroded over that 100K?

You have a 2000, the suspect head, so be sure to have it checked or replace it.

How is the bottom end?

There are some really high mileage XJs running around, and 200-300K is fairly common. The highest I've read of, and supposedly its documented, is 612K MILES without any work.

You must live in a really bad neighborhood if someone shot up your valves!

It's actually a 96 head.
bottom end looks good and all other cyl's where 135-140 psi so i'm not concerned.

No real issue here, just putting on a new head. (I have accumulated a few extra over time)

Looks like there may have been some crappy fuel, detonation or both going on in that jeeps past.

That, sir, is not a bullet wound. Obviously the Cookie Monster was inside your engine, probably very late at night while you were sleeping, and took a bite out of your valve.

A very common mistake--valves do look like chocolate cookies from a distance.

It's important for the valves to rotate, so things like this will not happen.

also important to figure out why it went lean enough to burn a valve like that.

I honestly don't care. Jeep got cut to pieces and scrapped.
Got to love Michigan rust.

Motor went in my 2000 and piston one had a misfire the day I installed it.

No help needed, just thought it was kinda funny.

Most likely a vacuum leak. The vacuum system on the Jeep 4.0 is so darn hokey it's hard to keep it perfectly tight. i just disconnected as many vacuum accessories as possible on my Jeep and plugged the lines. Cuts down significantly on the amount of places you have for possible leaks.
