Government use XJ's have a 117 amp alt and it should be a direct fit

should, but you'll def need to upgrade the wiring to handle the extra juice.

It will fit but there is a problem. Renix xjs use internal voltage regulators ho xjs do not.

And there's the kick in the butt ... so what can us renix guys do for more voltage? ALL the local rebuiders say there is no way to bring up the voltage ....

There is a stator to go to 100amps for our alternator. or a custom wind. supposedly the 130d alternator has a version with our bolt pattern. I havent had the extra money to take mine down to the rebuilder to confirm that yet but you could ask your shop about it. Those can go all the way up to 200amps without having to do a custom wind. But alternator bracket clearancing may be required. There is also a guy who just installed an external voltage regulator. The wiring for that isnt overly complicated, but if you want bolt in ask your rebuilder if he has some 130 cores to compare to your stock 121

Edit. Supposedly if you drill out a hole a bit bigger the cs 144 is bolt in

Yes, I found this on another site: "Through 1990, Jeep used Delco alternators with internal voltage regulators (Delco CS-130 for XJ/MJ, and I think 12SI for the YJ.) They swapped to Nippondenso across the board for 1991, with the regulator circuit in the PCM."

So, I have a 1990 4.0, does that mean the alternator in the sticky is not good for me? I just wasted some cash then. The sticky needs to be updated.

Really, how hard is it to figure out the regulator issue? Anything can be done if you have the brains and funding.

Figured id post this here as well.

Stole the hatch struts from a mid 90s model explorer headed to the scrap yard to replace my non functioning struts. Come to find out, theyre a near perfect replacement as long as you only use one. Theyre sightly shorter (not enough to notice really) and strong as ****. I'm 210 lbs and couldnt compress one with all my weight on it.

I found the perfect combo was one explorer and one stock. Seems the stock is working in reverse against the new one slowing it from flying up real fast. Ends are different, but easier to install IMO and work just fine. These things are super strong.. Id probably crack the hatch before I closed it with then both on there.

Or you could just go to an auto parts store and buy replacements for your jeep
