Default Broken shock stud.....

Just broke the shcok stud off the rear driver side on my 99 xj with a 8.25 rear, wondering what is a good way to go about fixing this.... I am thinking of cutting it off and welding a bolt onto it and using a sleeve of some sort to hold it on.

what do you think is a good way to go about fixing this?

Had the same thing happen to me. I ground it off flat on the front, then drilled it out (1/2 inch if I recall). Used a grade 8 bolt. Didn't weld it in or anything. Its been that way since February and haven't had any issues.

Don't know if its the best way, but it was what I could do with the tools that I had available to me at the time.

You can do >>>cutting it off and welding a bolt onto it and using a sleeve of some sort to hold it on.

It depends on how far its broken off. I broke mine off just on the threads. still had plenty for my shock bushing to slide onto so I ground it down to length needed for a thick washer and nut to press against it. from there I drilled a "smaller than the original stud" sized hole and taped it for 5/16-18. put on a large washer, lock washer, and tightened the 5/16th bolt into it until tight. was a quick side of trail fix after a broken shock(broke the stud taking it off). but I have left it that way for almost a year with no issues and no sign of stress. theres not much stress actually on it, since the new bolt is just holding the shock from sliding off the mount

yeah so the top bolts are not coming off either, so I stuffed a nut in the bushing and welded it to the stud and then welded a washer on it, tempoary fix until I decide I want to deal with it again. the jeep has bilstiens on it and I want them gone.

I'm in the same boat, both my bottoms are broke and I got all 4 tops out, just haven't wanted to mess with it. Why take off the bilstiens though? I'm waiting to put my new ones on

Did this on mine. Mechanic looked at it when it was in for inspection, said it was a good fix and passed it. Running since May with it.
