On my 1990 XJ, the driver seatbelt buckle no longer clasps the belt. The release button now flops down, It should be under spring tension to stay up. Evidently a spring broken or is missing.
There is no foreign object in there.
How does one disassemble the buckle for repair? Got a road trip to go on, and no time to go to wrecker, so Id like to harvest a good spring from an used rear seat buckle
photo 1... I also had to employ a drift to bend one of the two tabs enough to get the screwdriver under it, but otherwise, mine came apart like in the video. I placed the drift as shown into the buckle prior to disassembly, and gently rapped it with a hammer. this moved the tab on the upper half enough to get a screwdriver behind it, then it pried off like in the video.
photo 2...My disassemble buckle revealed a broken spring! see upper right in photo for spring death!
