Default Broken Bolt

I broke a bolt that holds up the cross brace under my jeep that runs across from the drivers side to the passenger side. I cant reach up in there because the supporting piece where the bolt goes into is welded shut all the way around.I broke the nut off and part of the bolt so my question is since I broke off the nut part of the bolt is the head of the bolt welded in there? I tried drilling it out with no luck. I was working on the exhaust that is why I was taking it off and the nut was rusted on and just snapped.

That's a stud. Is it broken off inside? I would drill/punch it out, thread it and put a bolt in.

I tried drilling it out with a left twist drill bit but it wouldn't budge, thats why I thought it might be spot welded in there.I guess I will try a bolt extractor and see if that will work.Thank you for replying so quickly.

I feel for you man, nothing worse than having to deal with something like this when your in the middle of a project. There aren't too many options other than to drill it out. My only advice is to get some good drill bits and don't expect them not to get completely dull by the time you are done. Best of luck.

Thanks,I was going to drill it out today but it rained all day and my garage is full of all my tools so there is no room to pull it in. Hopefully it wont rain tomorrow.

I bought drill sharpening device and stopped buying drill bits.
It can even restore broken bit.

I have a drill doctor. It works great. I had To soak the stud in PB blaster for 4 hours then drilled a hole in it then switched to a left twist bit and finally got it out without damaging the threads in the hole.

If it rained all day yesterday,it would have been a good time to clean up all your tools & get the shop organized. Then you could pull the XJ in & work on it.

My garage is organized. We built on an extra room to our house and it cut our garage down a few feet where even if I took out both of my workbenches my tablesaw and radial arm saw the XJ wouldn't fit. I use my garage as a shop because it is to small to fit a vehicle in so all auto work has to be done in the driveway.
