So while i was replacing the rear u-joint on my DS i was checking a bunch of things underneith and grabbed the yolk on the axle and it has play in it (i can wiggle it about a 1/4 inch each way) not up and down or side to side but turning. what can i do to fix the play in the yolk? or is that normal, im not too sure but it just doesnt seem right.

You said turning. That is the result of wear due to lots of miles. There is no quick fix for this. The only remedy is to replace the gears. If you haven't changed the diff oil lately, I would.
