broke line from air intake
Not sure if this is the correct section for this question and hopefully it isn't too stupid (still waiting on my haynes manual to be delivered). This line from the air intake has been disconnected since I got my Jeep. Should I rig the line back together or replace it all together? Haven't had any issues starting up or idling or running it at all. Also would like to know the purpose of the line as well.
Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.

Yea you are in the right place. (maybe an understatement!). That is going to make a mess. You might want to tape that vent from the valve cover to your air cleaner untill you replace it. I mean tape it so it is free to vent like it goes, don't cap it off, or oil will come out all over.
Click on the link in my signature and the Napa part # is there somewhere. Also check out Cruisers tips right on top.
That looks pretty clean for an 87. How meny miles?

210k on the body and 90k on the engine. Original owner was a older lady who drove it up from Washington and traded it to the guy who I bought it from for some carpenter work and he just used it for a weekend beach vehicle. Virtually no rust and the interior is about as good as it gets for its age. I'm stoked since I picked it up. Thanks for the advice I'll do some reading!

Renix Vacuum Harnesses
The vacuum harness that attaches to the front of the valve cover and includes the grommet/fitting, and is called the front harness, is Napa part number BK 715-1367
The vacuum harness that is closest to the air cleaner, EGR etc, and is called the rear harness, is Napa part number BK-715-1366.
The tube from the rear of the valve cover to the intake manifold is part number 715-1365 and comes with the valve cover grommet.

If the rear tube is clogged up or your engine has excessive blow by, then you are going to get more out the front tube. That tube, when connected to the air box, should not be putting oil on your air filter. If it does, then you have some other problem. The correct fix is not to leave it hanging.

Cruiser thanks for the details man. After doing some poking around and removing grime around where the harnesses meet it looks like the rear and front harness are both previously cracked/crumbling. Now I realized why he had it taped (which broke as y'all can see from my pics) and wired up. On the front harness side it looks like he hot glued it in place?!
I reconnected it as well as I could and taped it together and wired it in place it seems to be holding after taking it for a test drive and no oil where it shouldn't be that I can tell. Anyways got the parts on order at napa and should be here in a few days.
Thanks again for everyone's replies and help
