Default Oil Leak Or maybe Transmission?

Ok so i replaced the rear main seal and oil pan gasket. Now I have ruled that out because I am still leaking oil. The oil is dripping from the front of the transmission. It drips about a drop every 15 to 20 minutes or so. Is there a place where the transmission leaks from the front? I have checked the valve cover pretty good and do not notice a leak from there. It drips even when its sitting so if it sits all night a good amount will leak so doesn't seem like that could be the valve cover.

Any ideas?

What year? The later models the book recommends putting RTV at the corners because of some shape differences or something. Also, did you get the gasket seated right in that curved part in the rear? I had to unbolt mine and get that part tucked in properly when I did mine.

Most leaks people think are the RMS and pan are from the oil filter adapter

I double checked it and did RTV it once I put it in. The funny thing is that the old one and oil pan gasket I removed seemed to be great shape. So I really believe it has to be something else. If I replace the O ring gasket on the oil filter adapter and valve cover gasket that would rule them out at least.

I guess the wierd part about it all was that when I had the oil pan off... It still dripped frequently... Had oil pan off for a week well on the axle lol. But it still dripped from transmission front. I still think its the RMS again but just wondering if it could be something else. Maybe a good degrease and then climb under it again would help solve the riddle?!

Is the leak oil or ATF? It's possible the front seal on the transmission is leaking, but we don't hear about that a lot as long as the transmission hasn't been pulled. Check the other things on the engine too.

Well it still at this point it has not dripped from oil pan since RMS and oil pan gasket. It just drips from the front of transmission. Really have not tried to see if it was atf or oil. Really don't know how I would tell. The jeep has 350k miles and engine has 75k but I think transmission is still factory.

Smell it

Pull you oil dipstick... Smell it... Pull your trans stick.. Smell that

Two very distinct odors!

I swear i can feel the difference between oil and atf between my fingers too

I had my oil pressure gauge sensor go bad where oil was pouring out the back of the sensor where the wires go in.

Exactly why I wrote this years ago:

I'd be looking up ABOVE first, and VERIFYING the source of the oil leak YOURSELF.

Everybody, who doesn't own or have to pay for or perform your vehicle repairs, loves to poke their noggin UNDER the Jeep and come out bearing the false bad news that your RMS is leaking.

Many mechanics, friends, people on Jeep forums who can’t see your Jeep from where they’re at, and good old Uncle Bob seem to enjoy telling you it’s the rear main seal. Has a catastrophic ring to it, doesn’t it?

A simple leak at the back of the valve cover or other source could produce the same symptoms. You don’t need to be a mechanic to figure this out. If you have good eyesight and a dim flashlight, you’re good to go on your own. Don't jump on the RMS/oil pan gasket bandwagon right off the bat.

Almost any oil leak on your 4.0 is gonna drip from the RMS area for two simple reasons.

First off, the engine sits nose-up and any oil will run back to the RMS area. Secondly, the RMS area is also the lowest point on the engine. Simple physics and the old plumber's adage apply here. "$hit flows downhill".

Valve cover gasket, oil pressure sending unit, oil filter adapter seals and distributor gasket, in that order, have to be eliminated as possibilities first.
