The front brakes are simple to replace, Rotors, calipers, pads. Simply everything is self explanitory when you get under there. My first time I did one at a time so I could look at the other tire to see how things went back on if I was confused. I did the drum brakes back a few years ago, and I remember it was a B**** putting them back together but to be honest my dad did most of the work on that one. So I can't help ya there.

Drum brakes are terrible to work on no matter what it is. Can't believe they are still found on new vehicles. Wish there was a disc brake conversion kit for the cherokee. Anyone know?

Drum brakes aren't that bad to work on once you understand how they work and go together. I can pull both wheels off and completely disassemble and reassemble in about 10 minutes.

Sweet! Quadratec has disc brake kits. Disc brakes are just better performance.

Whoa haha. Double negative means if you are asking if it is harder. And I can't imagine it being that hard going from one to another, I was able to just take it off and compare it to the otter side and figure out how it worked. You should be fine.

you did not say if your ABS light is on, if not the basic brake articles should be all you need. If you have an ABS problem you can look here:

The only thing ABS does in regard to working on the brakes them selves is add sensors at the wheels and wires to them that you have to be careful to not cut or smash. Everything else is the same, not any harder to work on.

Save your money on the conversion kit, just search for XJ disc brake swap and you'll find what you want. ZJ's and Liberty's rear disc brakes can be swapped over with out much trouble. Just search for it and you'll find a ton of info on it; a lot of people have done it.

Would the disc brake conversion be any more difficult b/c of the ABS sensors??

Im pretty sure the abs sensor is part of the hub/ bearing assembly so it shouldn't make a difference with or without abs

ABS sensor is a good question. The conversion kits state they do not work with Cherokees equiped with ABS.

YUP! drum brakes come apart fast, the only thing that can sometimes slow you down is the springs and the dirt.

Besides, rear drums is better than disk in some respects because the rear tires aren't always dragging.
