Default Brake problems?

On my nephews 96 XJ with 4.0 and auto. The pedal is firm when it is turned off but when you start it the thing goes to the floor. It blew a line so my brother spliced in a rubber hose. I know , Im gonna fix it the right way but after I figure out why I cant get pressure. I went over and looked at it . There are no leaks, in lines or vac. I checked the wheel cylinders, lines, calipers , vac lines ,booster and everything looks good. What am I missing? Why cant I get pressure? I went through 2-32oz bottles of fluid bleeding it so Im confident theres no air.

Done everything but the brake booster. How do you check that?

I would say you need to bleed more...no insult intended but is the fluid level full? I also thought about the booster went bad but that seems a little coincidental.

Not sure if this could happen on a XJ, but when I was a kid I had a Camaro that one of the wheel bearings went out and the front caliper was pushing the whole rotor out and it felt like I had mushy breaks. Have someone press the pedel while you see if the wheels move.

well if the calipers and wheel cylinder are workin...then your booster is probably workin then but if ya want take a line off and push in the pedal and see if fluid comes out...well how is the fluid level and how well did ya bleed the system?

Most likely air still in the system. If the pedal was decent before the line blew It would be a coincidence something else went bad.A bad booster gives u a rock hard pedal all the time..no assist.

Well it looks like Im gonna have to fix it myself. I went over to my brothers house and looked at it. Brother wasnt home and he has the keys but I looked at his repair and not good. He spliced in a piece of rubber hose to fix the broken line. Im gonna pick up new line and unions tomorrow and fix it right. Never send a boy to do a mans job. He didnt bleed the front , only the back. So he probably pushed all the air to the front. Ill let you guys know if I got it done. Thanks again.

Ok, my brother spliced in a peice of rubber hose on a broken line. I went over and cant find any leaks , bled all 4 wheels, checked for vac leaks, Checked booster, wheel cylinders, calipers. Everything checks out good. I even went through 2 -32 oz bottles of fluid bleeding them so Im sure there is no air in lines. What else am I missing?

All is well now. It was the rubber hose . I replaced the line with a real one and works great.
