Default Brake light issues

Ive got a 1989 Cherokee Laredo here. 4.0 liter with cruise control. The brake lights work but only turn on when the pedal is completely depressed. I have already replaced the brake light switch but the problem remains. Couldn't find a thread with this issue so any advice/help would be awesome.

If you have a plastic sleeve that goes in the bar that goes out to the booster/master cly. you can take it out and it should work your brake lights earlier . you have the same type of brake light switch a ford used .

There doesn't seem to be a plastic sleeve on the bar that goes to the booster. Any other ideas?

I don't remember seeing anything like that and unfortunately can't check until after I get off of work. Will update when I have some time to look.

Just in case anybody else encounters the problem, I figured the issue out. Feel pretty stupid about it too. The brake light switch needs to be at about a 45 degree angle down off of the mount. That was the whole problem

I had a similar diagram from a haynes manual, and it shows the brake light switch at a right angle when it actually needs to be angled. Thats why it took so long to figure out.
