Question Brake Job Issues..

Ok so im done with my brake overhaul giving it SS lines in the front, calipers & hard lines in the rear, & then i dissconnected the ABS system pulling the relay, fuses, & cutting the lines, since i have a Ford 8.8 rear end, & i hate ABS.

Now i have issues like a soft pedal that goes to the floor every single time, a red brake light that comes on only when i hit the pedal, & no fluid coming out the bleeders. I assume its got somethin to do with the ABS system since i know all the plumbing is good, but i dont know what exactly so im here to ask u guys based on the above info!!

Thanks!!

My XJ is a 1998 & the 1st link is based on a 1991 model which has a completely different setup. The second link is not much help either but thanks for the effort.

I have not done the rear disc brake swap yet myself (soon), but if I remember right, I have read that you need to swap out the brake proportioning valve with the one from the vehicle with the disc brakes in the rear. IIRC, if you don't, it'll give problems like you have described.

That doesnt make sense since i had the same Ford 8.8 axle in the rear of my 95 XJ with no issues, & just to clarify this further, the issue is that i cant bleed the brakes due to whats listed above in my original post...

You said you cut the lines of the ABS system, are you talking about the brake fluid lines? If so that might be your problem. If you're getting no fluid to the lines. Have you made sure there is fluid in there?

If I were you I'd go get a master cylinder out of an XJ with no ABS and get rid of the ABS all together.

That was my suggestion in the first post...
