I hit a bump recently with my 00 Cherokee, and it blew fuse #6 (5A). Noticed it actually had a 10A fuse in this position though, and on further inspection, I found a handful of 10A fuses in the glovebox.
I am going to assume this has happened a few times to the previous owner. So anyway, I searched and found several others who have had this issue, but none who have fixed it. Am I missing something?

On my 90 xj the dash lights and rear lighting are on the same circuit (10 amp) and my trailer wiring was shorting and causing the fuse to blow. Might start looking there

Is there a trailer plug at the rear of your Jeep? If so, check the trailer plug wiring for a worn spot that is grounding out.

When i wired my stereo mine did the same thing. i had a short in the wiring harness behind stereo. if your dash lights are going out your tail lights should be to. so be carefull driving at night
1992 Jeep Cherokee - dash light fuse blowing. Also an unmentioned 'gift' from the previous owner. I was thrilled when I first replaced the fuse and everything was fine, but by the 2 blown fuse [same night] realized what 'situation' was causing it. - HEADLIGHTS ON AND GEAR SHIFT IN REVERSE *POP* - Every time. Mine does have an after market stereo, so in the coming weeks I'm going to troubleshoot that - AFTER I verify the 'neutral safety switch' is not the culprit. If I "shift quickly" through reverse with the lights on, it won't blow - or remember to keep the lights off while backing up - but I ALWAYS forget eventually so I just leave the fuse out until needed. It ONLY affects the dash lights and I still have tail lights with it blown.

Thanks guys. I've got ALL the PO indicators. Aftermarket stereo, Uhaul installed hitch/lighting, etc. Soon as I get back from a two-week trip I'm gonna fix this thing. Since the problem is so easy to reproduce [reverse with lights on *pop*], then it should be fairly easy to troubleshoot. I've gotta do 'something' about all those blown speakers, so I might start with the stereo - but can't imagine that trailer wiring not being at the top of the suspect list. Neutral safetey switch I'll save for last - since that can get more dicey: Did notice my reverse lights DO work on occasion - but not consistently.

my 90 xj is blowing fuses the minute I turn on the head light switch..i lose dash lights and tail lights..i can't seem for find the problem I checked stereo an its all right..
LOL. SOOOOO amazing I'm still enjoying this 1300 dollar Jeep 8 years later?! STILL blowing that fuse if I put it in reverse with the lights on - know now it's that module in the tranny, but so much easier just to back up with lights off and keep a few boxes of fuses handy. lol Haven't touched this 92 Cherokee, no lift, A/C still blows cold, and I get compliments all the time. Why don't they made solid, tough, vehicles like this anymore? At least this same 4.0 engine?!
