If you insist on changing your oil every 3000 miles, use the cheapest 10w30 you can find. Synthetics are great if you want to extend your drain intervals, but otherwise are a waste of money.

Quaker State 10W40

Do some research, as of right now the Purolator Pure ONE is the best filter on the market. As for oil, it all depends on your climate, driving conditions, how often you change it, etc.

Shell Rotella 15w40 here.
I've been using it for years in everything from the 12 Liter diesel engines to the KTM 640.
The only engine that doesn't get it is the Lincoln with the 4.6 DOHC engine it gets better mileage on 5w30 synthetic.

Mobile 1...5w30; Valvoline; Shell. Full synth. I'm a believer...used to not be but I have seen the light.

Just personal experience...but I avoid Pensoil.

x2 on Rotella. Good oil. Started using it in 1977. I just put a load of 15/40 in my Kubota diesel tractor...but in the future, I'm moving to 10/30...maybe even 5/30.

This topic has been posted before and I remember one guy saying mobile 1 filters were the best then comes purolater and fram filters were junk. What was interesting about his comment is that Champion makes filters for mobile 1, which is still rated lower than Purolator. I think most people go by what they read and 99% is probably sales mumbo-jumbo to make other products look bad. It's hard to compare when all the companys use different micron ratings, and standards. Some are based on single pass, double pass, ect... I have done my own minor testing, with the filters ph30, 8a, and also the 4316 which i think is a mopar filter, its been a few years so the part number may be wrong. Anyhow from what I have seen the Pure One filters have thicker media(synthetic AND paper), and thicker metal cans.

Mobil 1

This filter is made by Champion Labs using what I call their "performance" design instead of the "Ecore". It uses a synthetic fiber element that can filter out very small particles and has a high holding capacity. It is rated by the manufacturer at just under the Purolator Pure One as far as filtering capability, but is still very much above conventional paper filters. It also has a very strong construction to withstand high pressure spikes during start-up. However, as with all Mobil 1 products, expect to pay 2 - 3 times as much for this filter. I have seen this filter sold at Auto Zone and K-mart and used them a few times, but I feel they are not worth the money in the end. Though I have never had problems, I had received feedback from a few people back in 1999/2000 that these filters may leak at the base. It seems that the seal between the backplate and can may burst under high pressure (at startup). These were on Ford engine applications.
