Default Best way to clean upholstery/carpet?

My recently purchased '92 Laredo needs a good cleaning inside. It has numerous stains on the carpet. Most look like spilled soft drinks and some are grease or oil-type.

The seats, especially the 2 fronts, also have dark stains on them.

I was wondering if renting a Rug doctor would do the job, or should I take it to a detail shop that has the equipment to take care of automotive stuff?

A friend also mentioned Resolve carpet cleaner.

Any advice/ideas?

Try taking carpets out and pressure wash them, at least it worked on mine, (87 wagoneer) and they look neat

As a former car detailer I will tell you, the only difference between you doing it yourself or someone else doing it for you is the price!

Resolve works awsome for the carpets, the seats, on the other hand are tougher to get stains out of, resolve might help but certainly will not get everything out.

My suggestion would be to resolve the whole car and use a stiff bristle scrub brush on all the carpets. For the seats use something a little less ridged to scrub, but scrub none the less.

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE STAINS FROM THE OVER HEAD LINER! It is like a tissue and is very easily damaged! Plus the foam underneath is really awful stuff.

One more suggestions, do all your scrubbing prior to renting the steam vac. If you scrub first let the car sit (in a garage or shade) until you get back with the steam cleaner you will have much much much better results.

Any other questions just ask!

well i used resolve carpet cleaner diluted 1/10 with hot water in a spray bottle and a really powerful shopvac. spray the solution and suck it up. Do a small area to make sure it's safe. Disconnect your battery for this one. I spent a long time in mine and it drained my battery. oh and u don't need a lot of the solution so only apply a little at a time.

So you're saying there is no safe way to clean the head liner?...The Jeep I am purchasing has some type of crap on it...Was hoping not to have to replace it....

Mine were so bad when I bought it, I took out the seats, sprayed them down with cleaner, let it sit for an hour or so, and used the garden hose on high pressure. Let the seats sit out for a day in the sun and put them back in. It was a lot of work, but I had tried using a carpet/upholstery cleaner and shop vac about 3 times and there was still gunk in there.

Auto Zone has a cleaner called purple power its amazing deloute it first then make it a little stronger if you have light interior it may turn it purple so start light. I told winston427 about it and now it stays around his house uses it for everything best stuff in the world for concrete driveways, put it on straight and let it sit for a day with a little water and scrubind it will look like brand new.

I use a product from Wal-Mart called Purple Power. It's concentrated, so I dilute it at about 8:1 w/ water. Then I spray it all over liberally and use a nice stiff bristle brush to work it around. Then I extract the stuff with a BLGM (Bissel Little Green Machine). It sprays hot water on the surface through a nozzle in the suction head. So the water is really only on there for a second or so until you suck it up. Works great.

I found the best and the cheapest....MUD

Get a good thick layer of it on the OUTSIDE. Makes the inside look super clean.

you should just pull out all your carpet, put on some seat covers, and put herculiner down for your floor. Easiest combo in the world for cleaning out mud and other crap cause seat covers wash and you can pull the plugs out of the floor board and wash the mud out of there with the hose. That's what is workin for me.
