best sounding exhaust for straight 6
Oh btw, power potential is limited by the VE (Volumetric Efficiency) of the engine.....yeah I have built some engines before too. (502 Hemi with a BDS Blower) went into a dirt circle track late model.... It flew!

i want to do this so bad! but i think it might be illegal in MA here so idk (if you know please tell me). i love the sound tho. especially seeing as to how its basically free besides a 90 degree bend and a small tip. and luckily i have clamps not welds so that should make it easier hopefully ha

Is the only reason running with no muffler illegal because of noise ordinances? Because if so, with a stock cat in place this engine is not very loud at all and has a nice sound. I used to have a F150 and I mangled the muffler one time, so I had to hack it off until I could take care of it. I thought it sounded nice, but it was quite loud. My XJ with straight pipe on the other hand is mellow with a nice tone. I'm really protective of my 3 young children's hearing (ages 5, 4, 1) and I don't think twice about taking them with me.
my exhaust measures around 96 DB......with a friend revving it and me with my meter about 10 feet from the tail pipe.....thats with no load. Going to about 3 grand (all i ever rev it to) WOT.
Thats with a muffler.....want to think again about hearing loss? Of course with all the sound padding in these Cherokees, inside it measured somewhere around 70 DB. At 55 MPH. You're still safe for your kids... I lost over half my hearing in my left ear (mostly low feq) due to an ear infection when I was like 3 so, eh anything can happen.
BTW quite cars are terrible for me at least 2 times a week I try to start the fleet Chevy p/u at work when its running. Thank you Chevy for the safety switch that keeps from starting it when its already running....I would have killed a lot of ring gears by now!

I bought my Jeep with the exhaust thats on it.. It has a cracked header/manifold (yep right where the two pipes meet) to no cat, to a flowmaster muffler (not sure what series) to a megaphone (thats what I was told they are called) tip on the back and it sounds sweet at the back of the jeep, but up front it sounds like crap because of the cracked manifold... see here is the cracked manifold..

and here is a video of the exhaust... not the best video (cheap recorder from wally world) the video was kind of like a short walk around.

i know a lot of people do not like glass packs what not however i am very pleased with my glass pack(2.5"), i run a 2.5" magnaflow high flow cat and the stock header (re-welded) with a mandrel Bent 2.5" tail pipe. it sounds very mean, has a nice low tone to it and really sounds nice when you get into the throttle. also it does not have a lot of drone. i have run no pipe after the cat, strait pipe after the cat, magna flow super 40 and the glass pack(used clamps and pipe to determine what i liked best) when i tried the glass pack i loved it so i stuck with it and its now a fully welded system.
