The exhaust on mine maybe isn't the best sounding but its affordable. Its a Hushpower catback system. Its the white cherokee in the video.

I'm not trying to argue with anyone, but I have been hearing about this "backpressure" debate for years and years. An internal combustion engine is an air pump. The more air you get in and you get out, the more power the engine makes, and the more efficient it is. I have been building professional drag racing engines for years now and have had a lot of success. A NHRA pro-stock car makes about 3 hp per cubic inch naturally aspirated. That is a tremendous amount of power to make naturally aspirated. Never have I ever heard Alan Johnson say, man if only I had added a couple mufflers to the car, i would have been able to take no. 1 qualifying position from Greg Anderson.... lol.

Things like header tube size and collector size can affect the hp and torque. There is definitely an argument there. Let's use a 340 Chrysler engine as an example. You can build a nice 340 that makes say 500 hp. With that engine, depending on intake and exhaust port volume, cam profile, ect, there is a chance that engine may make more hp and torque with 1 3/4" header tubes vs. 1 7/8". The reason for this is exhaust velocity, not "backpressure". Do you know how if you plug part of a garden hose with your thumb, the water comes out faster? this is the same deal. with that particular engine, the smaller tube header MAY make more power because the velocity MAY be greater. Now, no offense to anyone, but I personally think a 4.0 with no muffler does not sound good... But, I can see no way that it would rob power. You cannot restrict flow and gain power. And again, to my previous statement, the reason in some circumstances that a smaller tube header MAY make more power, is NOT because of a restriction causing "backpressure", it is because the exhaust velocity may be faster and actually increasing flow to actually make less "backpressure". Just a little FYI.

suburban_sam, where is Dresser, WI? I just moved from the Appleton area after being there for two years. I made it up to the pipeline once. It was awesome up there, but the 95 mile trip to get there put a damper on it...

Not trying to highjack the thread, just curious where that was...

i totally agree with what you said and i know this is a little off topic, but for example i put an aftermarket exhaust on my 4 stroke 250cc dirtbike. its the disk style with an endcap where you add or remove them to your liking, and the exhaust is made to build back pressure which creates more power. i tried removing the disks and the endcap so it was just a straight exhaust and it lost power. but then when i put them back on it was great. so in this case, back pressure is needed. which doesnt really make sense but it works. i guess its all about how you build them?

The issue there is, you remove the disks, the exhaust flows much better now. Because you just improved the flow of your "air pump", now you need more fuel to maintain your air/fuel ratio to keep the engine in tune. By removing the disks in your muffler, you made your dirt bike engine too lean (more air flow without increasing fuel to match). Running too lean, made you loose power. If you would have removed the disks and richened the carb, you would have made even more power than you ever had. With the Jeeps, they have map sensors and O2 sensors that meter the air/fuel ratio for us.

Bottom line is, freeing up the exhaust and decreasing backpressure is going to make more power and increase the efficiency of the engine if tuned properly. My two cents

For the record, got my cherry bomb for $30 at pepboys, and $40 for installation at a local mom and pop shop. Total = $70 I think it was worth it. Made my dad pissed why he found out

Am i the only one who opted for the Gibson exhaust? I think it sounds deep, not too loud and it's all stainles steel.

i have all stock exhaust but i replaced the muffler with a Flowmaster Super 44 and it sounds beefy a high flow cat would probably make it sound better but just the muffler alone i have to turn it off at drive thoughts so the people can hear me.

hey man not sure if this is what you're looking for but this is a high flow cat with dynomax super turbo cat back that i got with a manufacturer's rebate for $50 shipped. cherry bombs and glass packs arent legal here in boston.

heres my set-up spent $60 or so custom cat-back done in my shop, with my own tubing bender and welder and torch! 2 hours done!

Apex Exhaust (sub thing of Merit exhaust), XLERATOR VX muffler.

2 1/4" exhaust muffler back. stock 2" tubing muffler forward. stock cat. stock manifold.

Has much more growl in person (bad mic on camera too), it barks loudly when you really decide to rip it, turns heads! I get comments at gas stations when I pull in sometimes too lol.

My neighbor says he knows when I come home every day, and he lives 1/4 miles away too!

NO drone, and its noticeable inside, but not unplesent! and can still have a normal conversation.

let me know what you think installed it 2 weeks ago, and love it so far! I can get you a part # and where to get it if you like it!
