yeah but isnt the rod connected to a u-bolt clamp? if thats the case i wont need it. and unfortunately i did notice that because i just replaced that hoop hanger.Originally Posted by JackGTX440
One thing I noticed, your tail pipe hanger is the rubber hoop. The kit comes with the rod that fits through the hole in the factory rubber grommet. There may have to be a little tweaking there.

Go with the super 40, its the loudest flowmaster hands down. (see sig)
The super 44 is supposed to be the most aggressive sounding muffler, but there is a difference between aggressive and loud. I've heard XJs with the same setup as me but with the super 44 and mine has a better tone. The super 44 is too raspy, and I would only put something like that on a V8 truck or something with more displacement. I have a 2.5" magnaflow highflow cat, 2.5" super 40, and 2.5" tailpipe and it sounds great.
I don't have a clip of mine because I don't have a video camera and the one on my phone sucks. I found some on youtube with the same setup as mine. Again, this is not my jeep, just some with the same setup I have.

Yes and IMO it sounds like a A$$. Again IMO if it doesnt have a nice V8 rumble to it (like my mustang) i dont want exhaust on it. I have searched youtube for hours listening to 4.0's with exhaust...I dont like how mellow they sound.Originally Posted by FlyingLow
Have you ever heard a xj with the exhaust cut off after the cat and dumped out the side? There is nothing "mellow" about it.

Yes, the end needs to be tweeked a little. It will contact the extended shackle and it sends some really wierd harmonics through the vehicle.Originally Posted by bembas221
hey JackGTX440 i was thinking about getting that exhaust for my XJ but i have 1" shackles on mine and they are about 1.5" longer and was wondering if i would have to bend that dynomax tailpipe in order to fit it. from your pictures it almost looks like it hangs under your shackle a little.

I agree, my exhaust broke after an accident right behind the cat so it was like driving a vehicle with no exhaust after cat, and IMO it sounded horrible, just sounded like a broken exhaust system.Originally Posted by 98 JeepJeep

I agree its not comparable to the bark of a V8, but its a low reving straight 6 with about 50 less cubes in size. At least it doesn't sound rice like many 6 cyl motors.

I've had 2 XJs, both with stock cat and straight pipe out the stock tailpipe, because the mufflers were trashed and I didn't want to spend the money to upgrade. I've enjoyed their sound (again, running it the full length out the stock tailpipe) which I describe as a decent little rumble at idle, nice growl under acceleration, and pretty quiet when cruising. I still don't plan to spend any money to get a nicer sound from my exhaust...but if I ever do...it will hands down be what jeepkid has posted below. The second video clip he posted where the guy is pulling someone in the snow is the smoothest sound I've ever heard from a 4.0!

Do you have a video or some pics of it done? im thinking about doing it this weekend but worried once my clamp is off it wont go back on because its so rusty haha. so basically i want to know if its worth it. TIAOriginally Posted by FlyingLow
I wish. I lost it a few months back in cash for clunkers (not my choice, bought it off my parent but chyrsler never sent the bill of sale when it was paid off 10+ years ago so I couldn't do jack about her decision to screw me over). I loved the sound. It sounded like a baby v8 at idle. I had a DEEP rumple, not super loud at idle but could be heard, but when you stepped on it, it sounded like that beast wanted to suck the world through the intake and spit it out in a million pieces. I decided since it wasn't lifted to run it under the drive shaft and have it exit on the drivers side instead of on the passenger side. Cost me an additional $13 in pipe. I would roll down my window and just rev that thing every chance I got. For a sound, look under your jeep, and between the cat and muffler, it should be connected by either a weld, or u bolt clamp. If its a u bolt just disconnect the cat back and let it hang. If its a weld, a sawzall works wonders. Then stand on the passenger side and kneel down (at least 5 feet away) and have someone rev it for you. I had a glass pack on mine to start, and it was pretty nice, but once I took it off one day doing some routine repairs, and forgot to re install it... it never went back on. You rev it and it will put any ricer in its place. If you dont like how it sounds, just re- attach the cat back with the ubolt, or if you end up cutting it, a 2.25 exhaust connector and 2 u bolts should be around $5 at a parts store. But once you hear it, I bet you'll keep it that way. The cost of a cat back system vs the performance gains isnt too high. You gain maybe 1, possibly 2 mpg. And thats if you drive it nicely and don't step on it. And with a modified exhaust, stepping on it is half the fun. It appears your just looking for sound, so ditching the muffler and dumping it out the side sounds like a good option for you.

I have to agree with FlyinLow. One day my exhuast cracked off just in front of the cat and it sounded awesome. I just threw on a 45* bend to kick it out to the passenger side, theres no way it could have been more wide open sounding. A little while ago i bought a cherrybomb glassppack to quite it down a little bit so my dad would stop botherin me about it bein too loud when I came home at 2A.M. and woke up the whole nieghborhood, But I think i'm gunna end up pullin it off and runnin wide open again. My dad will just have to deal with it lol
