that castrol is fine, but you need 6 to 6 1/2 qts. fram filters are junk.

i only recomend wix, which are also sold by napa as napa gold filter, or carquest blue.

I've had good luck with the Mopar filters and I usually use castrol for oil as well.

I was a big Fram guy for a long time with all my cars and trucks...then I went to Ford Motorcraft for my fords with motorcraft oil too. Castrol in everything else...now...I am doing anything but fram oil filters. Lately its been STP air and oil filters and Castrol or Valvoline dino oil(synthetic in my G35).

x2. Don't use Fram unless you absolutely have to.

And they use mostly cardboard as a filter element whereas wix (napa gold) and the more expensive filters out there use an actual filter element that is reinforced with metal, and anti-drainback valves that actually provide anti-drainback. Pretty much if you pick up a fram in one hand and a wix etc in the other, you will feel the weight difference and that translates into better overall quality. Even the housing feels flimsy on frams.

  • 1st the filter element is not card board, there is a a card bard disk in some of there filters.
  • 2nd not all of there filters have card board in them, there is one filter that does not, i want to say it is the tough guard off the top of my head but dotn quote me on it

i have the link for all kinds of great filter info at home, i've posted it before. with that info they disected and inspected different fram filters and found no difference between the regular and more expensive fram filters. a hoax if you ask me, charging more for the same filter with different paint

i did bring up the wix filters, which i said i only recomend, but i've been buying mopar filters at walmart lately. (our filter is the only mopar my walmart has) and they have been fine.

Sorry for generalizing but if you were to take a fram and cut it in half and take a wix and cut it in half then compare, you'd see a huge difference in quality. Over on NAXJA there's a huge debate where someone did this and took pics. And yes, I was talking about the fun of the mill Fram. They do have their tough guard and high mileage filters and I have not seen the inside of them so I cannot comment. I have worked as an automotive mechanic for the past 7 years and from my experience, I wouldn't use Fram on my vehicle when you could spend a couple extra bucks and get a Wix.
