Default Best ideas for 1992 XJ

I have had all major work done to my 92 xj including the u joints replaced, new radiator, hoses, AC, belts, tires, Tune up, power steering hose, new brakes front and back, battery, lights all around outside indicators, and headlights, I am getting the Neutral Safety Switch replaced in the shop now. I have had the front axles checked and and bearings replaced. I have not had the exhaust done or any lift kits put on. the body is not perfect and I have not replaced the mirrors or fixed any other dents or rust. I am considering getting a Wrangler in the future but find it hard to think of parting with this Jeep. I have not had any major engine problems other than it not starting due to the relay or Neutral Safety switch. the starter is OK I think. the tranny is fine. The filter and gaskets for the tranny were done last year. Any ideas?

Give me about a year and I might do just that. So, what would you say? Keep fixing up the Jeep or replace it in the future?

sounds like you put more into the shop bill than the car is worth. If you already threw all this money at it, you might as well pay the shop to get it up and running as long as its only minor things

Thanks. I spent all day yesterday thinking about my Jeep in the shop. I think that I will keep it and begin working on the exterior this year. The hard part is the front drivers door and what to do about the dent.

first get you jeep out of the shop and do the work your self.

I've got a 92 that aint perfect but its a hell of a lot of fun to drive and work on its amazing with you can learn working on your own stuff

I was not able to start the Jeep unless I used screwdriver on starter solenoid. It would not start so I did not know if it was that or a relay or maybe starter coil. I could not drive it and turn the Jeep off since we had a blizzard here when I had dropped it off at the shop. This was a last resort to get it to the shop which is an hours drive away. It may be the Neural Safety switch and I don't want to try and do that myself since I hear they can break. The shop tech has done a lot to my Jeep and when I first got it I got ripped off since it was not even up to driving code after I got it. I had to chew the dealer a new one since it had no rear breaks and I found out the radiator and hoses were bad. I have done a lot of stuff to it and am going to keep the Jeep since I have thought about how much I have spent on it and the value is only for that work. I have had my share of common problems only since the last owner about drove it to death and really neglected it. The only rust on it is on the rocker panels and behind the rear wheels. I will get new exhaust this summer or spring and then go from there. I do enjoy driving it and don't care that people laugh at the Jeep. I wave to xj's and flip off the rest who laugh at it. no xj drivers laugh at it though.

I liked your photos. I will check out the pics of the trains you have since I used to be into that too. Very nice Jeep pics.

thanks. I think that the only other vehicle I will get in the future would be another used Jeep. I have plans on restoring my 92 xj since most of the shop work has been done. As I said in my last post, the jeep would not start and was due to a relay or Neutral Safety Switch. I could not do the work myself since I needed to get it diagnosed by the tech to find the problem. I would like to either get two front used doors to replace the ones on there or eventually have the body work done and new paint. I do have to admit that the shop is an hour away and the tech has had it for two weeks due to very bad weather and he is very busy. I was lucky to get it there after it had been sitting in the garage for a month. Yep, I do miss the Jeep and should be getting it back today.
