battery /altinator/hard start
well i ,made a post about how my jeep volt meter would randomly shoot to 19 instead of the normal 14 and the check gauges light would come on... today it was really hard to start, like i had to keep it at 1500 rpms for like 10 seconds or it would die... but then it ran fine... the reason for making this thread is because i wanna know if the problems are related? ive searched and read that i should check my battery connections and grounds. but i wanna know to be exact which to clean and where they are at. obviously the 2 on the battery, but is their anymore that i should clean?
2000 jeep xj btw. heres a link to the first thread for more info.. https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/che...roblem-166136/

My 2000 with a 5 yr old battery did the exact same as yours with the voltage pegging randomly. Batteries can go bad in a variety of ways. I figured it was my alternator but that checked out ok with advance running a diagnostic. We cleaned the terminals on the battery (again) but continued to have issues. I sprung for a new battery and problem solved about 1 yr ago and no issues since. A properly functioning battery is so very key.... FYI this happened at 140k miles on orig alternator.
