I have an 86 jeep xj I got from a friend. He had swapped the auto for a 5 speed. It makes a banging sound that gets loader with higher rpms and also bangs in first, second, third, and fifth gears but not fourth? It stops banging if you press the clutch pedal in but when you let it go it will start banging again. Could this be bad bearings?

 

Beside that dose it dive ok? It could be a gear issue with some hitting or a chipped tooth or something like that but it's very strange that it doesn't do it in fourth

 

Yeah, it still gets up and goes, Still stops, and still steers fine. Its just really load but stays that load and seams to not change.

 

When i get off work all look at the factory rebuild manual for that trans and see if i can find the part that would cause that problem.

 

I have rebuild a few ba10-5 and some ax15 but never the v6 manual trans

 

Wait is it a 4 or a v6?

 

Its the 2.8l v6 with the ax-5 transmission

That must be it. Ohh well i guss its time for a new transmission. Any transmissions that might take a better beating then the ax-5?
