When it is under load it is working overtime,it is just doing its job,the same smell you get when following someone when they are accelerarting and the cat is somewaht new.

I think Scott was mad about getting warned for mentioning removal of a catalytic converter someowhere else on this site. Supposedly he would get banned if mentioning it again because it is "illegal". When technically it is not illegal to remove a catalytic converter from a vehicle. It is only illegal if that vehicle is going to be used onroad. Lots of people run without a Cat on trail rigs, competition rigs, race cars/trucks. I think he was just blowing off some steam.

You bring a VERY valid point to the table. there's nothing illegal about removing a catalytic convertert if you intended to run the vehicle for farm use, as a trail rig or on private property. A Cat is only needed to pass state inspection so removing it post inspection therefor becomes illegal

That is a very good point, yea it might be a state wide law, but.... not all counties require a emission test. Luckily i live in one of those counties that doesnt require the test. Only 1 of the 5 vehicles i have has one on it, and thats the Jeep. Now im not saying take em off, 3 of my vehicles when i bought em didnt have one and i be damned if ill put one under it, and my 4th has a 650 aspirated horse power 383 stroker sittin in it so its for sure it didnt get no catalytic converters put under it when i had the exhaust work done. I been around cars all my life and found that not running one makes a vehicle run better and get better gas milege. My XJ, once i get new exhaust put under it, the catalytic converter is no longer gonna exsist under it. Big towns crack down on stuff like that, but when you live in a small town, its the least of their concern, especially when the law is more corupt then anything. Anyways im sure the egg smell is from your catalytic converter, get behind some vehicles while on a steep grade and youll smell the same thing from them.

as soon as the mods see this, it will be locked and deleted.

Honestly, it's not worth re-hashing over. a rule is a rule, and I'm fed up with people asking honest questions, and someone fugging it all up.
